There are multiple mangas that try to make slavery acceptable to the modern-day MC by adding laws about "fair treatment".First the "fun" and totally "good" slavery,
Basically, they're slaves, but they must be treated humanely. So it's not to the level of chattel slavery, but still very much slavery.
And my problem is that a lot of mangas trivialize slavery under the guise of "fair treatment".
I'm much more interested when the isekai'ed MC actually reacts to it as a normal modern day human should. Might get used to it eventually, but struggles with the notion for some time at the very least rather than a quick brush-off in a single chapter with "oh but this is totally good slavery". And they also compound this with the trope of "MC saves someone by buying them as a slave". (Here, the "criminal who was actually a good guy" type. The "damsel in distress" type is also pretty common.) Because MC can't be a bad guy for buying a slave, right?
It's a different case in a straight fantasy setting rather than isekai. With the MC born and raised in a society that tolerates slavery, there would be less moral struggle. But isekai characters tend to accept it way too easily. (I've seen exceptions, but they are pretty rare.)
