I wanted to add some "but" argument, but I realised that this is my mother, who pairs this with excessive drinking, and she basically became a truly sorry-state caricature of being, so yeah - true

I agree with the first two lines.
But the "sluts" part just doesn't make any sense. And the "can't trust" part is also ... I wish I could find out who cannot be trusted by whether they smoke or not, but it's not that easy!

I will add though that smoking is really fucking dumb. Because you KNOW it will impact your health, apart from all the icky stuff like nails teeth and breath.
It's also throwing money out of the window....

Smoking is bad, for sure, but that does not make someone not trustworthy
For example, my parents smoked before because their parents smoked and so on. I know some people who smoke casually to relax, others who do it to make themselves feel less sad, all people I can trust.

However, I can't say the same thing for someone who is heavily drunk, alcohol is by far more dangerous than smoking.
