They can’t keep saying eating isn’t necessary for survival in L.A.G while also having people dying from starvation. I get pulled out of the story every time either of those things are brought up. At first I thought the author retconned the starvation part, but I guess not.
as the saying goes, you can‘t have your cake and eat it too, this is just getting annoying.

Or maybe it’s me that’s missing something.

Probably they used to starve before getting the tranformation in the tutorial floor or whatever. After getting super human powers my best guess is that they don't need to eat or sleep anymore.

You are correct, as stated from the beginning after awakening you go beyond human limits immediately. And awakening happens after you leave the room
