Basically, they wanted no interruptions, and considering one of the enemies was a high-level rogue, well, that could've gotten nasty at an inopportune time.

In the WN, there's a mage among the stronger hired bodyguards here who just sees Rei's magic power when he walks in and runs into a corner sobbing in fear of having him as an enemy. Just one glance and she's out.
