If you have get handed a device for the competition, on site, and this happens request the pause and report the malfunction. All the recordings could also be used to prove that the cheat wasn't present when the match started...

People train for academic tests, for chess competitions, for anything based in skill.

Studying is the term for training for academic tests, but it isn't called studying to, for example, play a bunch of chess games to hone your skill at chess, it's training.
