Midæival ≠ Pre-contemporary, damn it!
Midæival clothing, anything worn during the Middle Ages, which ran from the end of Antiquity to the Renaissance (so c. 7th century to c. 16th century, depending on when the Roman Empire's influence left and the Renaissance began in a given region). The Phantom of the Opera is set in the 1880s! (That's at least three hundred years off!)
To begin with, opera didn't come about until in the High Renaissance, and its present form dates to the Baroque! This goes way beyond what the Society for Creative Anachronism allows! Ouch, just ouch.
