This is a pretty good prequel. Otani giving Risa the signed Umibouzu CD definitely has more meaning with this. It also does make sense that Otani would try to break bread. the series effectively starts with him doing that with Risa.
He’s not quite as easy to set off about his height as he is at the start of the series but this is also before he got cucked by a tall guy.
