@manganism personally I think a lot of it is to push different types of father figures like teachers and masters and so on, but also yeah I think because a lot of good work can be overseas or around the country
Holy shit I felt those grades. Back in highschool, I had to maintain so much housework and maintained a habit of extreme politeness for the teachers, which resulted in my grades tanking hard. All the teachers loved me, but I still remember scoring something like a 10 out of 40 for a freshman Geometry test.
exactly. my mother had a very hard third pregnancy. to the point where she couldn't do something as simple as making stew without overexerting herself. i also feel like it was hinted that the mom was pushing him to learn how to cook thru trial and error like she did. and i think that could benefit him in long run. not only skill wise, but since he's at the point where he feels like he isn't good at anything, it's good for him have something to gradually get better at. and to remind him to not beat himself up over things not being perfect and finding the good within his attempts
