Hoooooooh. Poor teach. So a swamp of special difficulty to swim in, deeper then should be possible, filled with the ghosts of..... well.

It was probably something like:
Konishi and Kido get slightly separated from Mochizuki.
Konishi and Kido see a ghost drowning in the swamp, think it's Mochizuki, and go to get help.
Mochizuki sees ghosts drowning in the swamp, thinks it's Konishi and Kido, and gets scared and hides.
The moral of the story is that Mochizuki is a coward who will let your ass drown.
I think the dad is correct: all three kids saw something and jumped to different conclusions.
