I don't get this one? Nine deaths?
Sorry, I know this will cause confusion so I added a T/N at the end. "Night of Nine Deaths” also means “Near-Death" or "The Night of Narrowly Escaping Death." The term "九死" (kyuushi) literally means "nine deaths" and is used to imply a situation of extreme danger or a close brush with death. I just kept the phrase this way to retain the dramatic/supernatural feel. Making it near-death is kinda blah so...

So like a cat having 9 lives or so, tho i suppose it's good he escaped as opposed to 'foolishly' going back to 'find out the mystery' or so like some would

Thanks for the TL and note.
What I got from this story, is heavy drinking can kill you in ways more than just with liver damage.

Well, yeah... you don't even need ghosts to stumble and fall on the road in front of incoming traffic, or hit your head on the curb and die of brain hemorrhaging. Then there is falling off high places, like when losing balance while leaning over the fence of a high staircase. In countryside drunks have also been known to drown in a ditch filled with rain water.
For someone who has been drinking a lot, the guy in the manga is surprisingly reasonable and in control of his actions than the average real life drunk.

that would mean avoiding any form of public bathroom. much more inconvenient than just abstaining from alcohol
No, man, i say random not any. I mean it's being picky on bathroom to use. I wouldn't go into a random bathroom like MC does even after meeting that shady dude. The MC even said that he probably goes to nearby convenience store. Now that what i would do, pick convenience store bathroom.
