Can't say I really saw that last part coming, since everyone in the manga is in that realm of beautiful for either gender could go, but with around with how discovery of the ovary and testicle, the subtle hints became much clearer. And I wonder if aquariums would sponsor an anime of this story.=

As obnoxious as I find Ryou congrats to the author for actually pulling off decent trans representation (so far). This was a good chapter and they grew a lot.

I'm confused. Was this trans or a girl pretending to be a guy (in the disguise sense)? Was she(?) running away from home? If she was trans, were they originally a girl or a guy? Either way good character.

From what I understand, Ryou is transmasc. I think Ryou is FTM which means female to male. That’s probably the reason why he didn’t show his student ID to the director as it would’ve had Ryou’s dead name.

Damn I did not see that coming (especially in a manga about deep sea fish), but after rereading it, the explanation of the hermaphrodites ,the girl in a previous chapter calling him ‘Suzu’ and a worker saying his face is cute like a girl’s, made me realise it was subtle foreshadowing to Ryou being a trans FTM person. This is actually really well done it’s nice to see representation for the LGBTQ community not done in a kind of fetishizing way or a blatant way where they point it out every second. Well done author!!

Ahhhh!!! I had a feeling Ryou was trans since the flashback to his job interview had the director ask to see his student ID, but I thought maybe I was reading into that too much!! It is so surprising but awesome to see a trans character appear suddenly in such a nice manga like this. The reveal was so nicely done, it surprises the readers but doesn't make a big deal of it to any of the characters involved except Ryou himself.

And with marine biologists, it makes sense that they'd accept him so easily. They of all people understand that biological sex isn't a black and white spectrum. I just love how this series emphasizes the connection between their work with marine life, and respect and love for all aspects of life. The author is really committed to that message.

I think the point the author wanted to make is that it doesn't matter
