It's about time to re-read vol 1 for the complex feelings that the mother's harbored 😓😓

Oh, so maybe he didn't kill his mom after all.

Alternatively, since the investigation is still ongoing and the cops question Kenta's mom, maybe Haruki's soul is super-valuable because he killed BOTH parents.

I think the father stuff is already quite dark for super value.

He didn't kill his mother. It was just an attempt, actually. In chapter 2, Sentarou confirmed that his mother survived and would recover.
Yeah, it's still a mystery why the dog decides to show up in front of him, not Sentarou.

I think we've seen some indicators that Sentarou isn't actually innately good at magic?

1. Sentarou said his uncle would've been disappointed in him, and some of the sorcerers at the meeting were talking about how the previous Tsukagami (uncle) was impressive and the current one (Sentarou) is a joke.

2. Sentarou mentioned that he wasn't able to learn the language his demon speaks, and that (unfortunately) the demon has started using human language, starting with the word "fetch."

My thought is that his whole deal with the dog is the result of the fucked up magic thing his uncle did to him. And that his uncle only chose him because he was terminally ill and running out of time.

And that the overall picture is:

1. Uncle: good sorcerer + normal deal with dog
2. Sentarou: bad sorcerer + extremely modded deal with dog
3. Haruki: normal sorcerer+ extremely modded deal with dog

"Mad Dog Disease," idk I think some kids are just scrappy like that? If you put them in a fight or flight situation and they see an opportunity to bite you they'll fuckin' go for it.

It's true that Sentarou is not smart, both in studying and social skills. He's clumsy, he's not good looking, he's sloppy. He's the opposite of a standard shoujo protagonist.

What I concluded from volume 2 is that the dog maybe meant for him. Because Sentarou is slow, his uncle had to keep the dog within his body to tame it, his health deteriorated. He died within two weeks from old Munakata and Kinuko's visit. His uncle wanted Sentarou to make the union bow down to him. He had enough time (10 years) to choose who to take over the magic, but surely he did run out of time because he wasn't able to "prepare" Sentarou. His last concern might be Sentarou's emotionlessness, which he couldn't do anything to change. (Hirotsugu is emotionless, too, and his soul value is 0).

But the dog is a smart being, maybe there's something in Haruki that fits it better than in Sentarou, that's why it showed up before the kid.

Hmmm, you're right about that.
His uncle wanted Sentarou to make the union bow down to him.
Thing is I think he did succeed at that part.

Back at the union meeting they were talking about how they have a "new system" that makes it much safer to use dangerous magic; that system is Sentarou.

Uncle did something to Sentarou so that when he uses the dog to kill someone that person's soul can somehow be used by another sorcerer to pay for magic. Which is insanely broken.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was already impossible for the union to go back to the days of members having to risk their own souls to cast magic.

Now that I think about it, his "bow down" is literally "bow down", but not revenge the uncle's father or sister. Like make the whole union who once morally rejected the uncle now can't live without Sentarou.

I think Sentarou has been in the union for about 15 years, because he looks like he's in his 30s. For all those years, what he's been doing is harvesting the souls for them, no sign of revenging or what. If so, he's led a miserable life imo. 10 years of being abused, abt 15 years of being exploited. And now the one who can replace him appears, and they immediately want to expedite the replacement.

This is just my thinking, it's not in vol 5 or 6.

You're really sharp on this!!! It will be in the next vol.

And tbh, I didn't expect someone to notice the sorcerers' talk at the meeting, because some of the dialogues are quite vague with the information provided at vol 3. Many Japanese readers say that whenever a new vol is out, they have to re-read from the beginning and realize the loose ends the author left in earlier vols.

The reason for their hate towards Sentarou will soon be revealed.
