I'm confused. What magic is "Oath" forcing Tatsuya to use? Doesn't it prevent the use of Material Burst, thus similar to Gatekeeper?

I find it funny that despite how magic in mahouka is based on advance science, they still rely on tradition like that purity stuff.
Or I guess this removal is more like the ancient magic?

I think the translation they used for the anime is pledge and its mental magic.

That's probably because the magic is hidden deep within Miyuki mind and Tatsuya need to dig deep without any other interruptions so sniff it out.

I was mainly confused about pg 12. "The Pledge of the Tsukuba family, in essence, is a ritual that forces the other party to use the magic one desires."

So, what magic is Tatsuya being forced to use?
I thought Pledge prevented him from using Material Burst, which is more like the description of Gatekeeper in pg 13.

I think the other party refers to the one who cast it.

The original kanji is "津久葉家の誓約は、仕組みでいえば相手に自分の望む魔法を使わせる術式だ" I think the closer translation would be "In terms of how it works, the Tsukuba family’s pledge is a spell that compels the other party to use the magic the caster desires."
