why do these kids always try to deal with all situations with a fight. when it happened on their school grounds, or on the way to/from school, i could understand it, but here, in public, without clarifying the situation beforehand, that's just asking for trouble longterm.

Honesty, I would've done the same. They saw a child that appears to be upset, go to help her and then noticed attackers. They did the smart thing by trying to disengage from the attack, with one of their numbers staying behind as a rear guard, and attempted to get away. The fact that there were attackers in front as well shows the enemy's intent to attack, so they defended themselves.

I see how it's justified in this case, but I've noticed this in other chapters as well. Some of these characters follow "Attack first, question second." to the letter. I guess this has to happen to build up tension/action in the story, but the aggression looks so unjustified at times that it just seems fake.

To clarify, this series isn't even the worst offender of this trope. It's just that it's is more noticeable here because it contrasts greatly with times where they legit use grounded ways to deal with complicated situations.
