I don't know how to feel about that. Especially after all the waiting.

I mean, I don't see what's really wrong with them losing other than the fact that this was so stretched out that the pacing is wonky.

This isn't like, the final battle of the manga or anything.

No.1 crosses from something like midfield to the middle of the penalty box, and the goalkeeper doesn't move to intercept it? It's hardly thanks to no.1 "superpowers" they scored.
Also, if the simplest way you know to make your teammate score requires a 30m-dash followed by a bicycle kick, you've been taught a very odd soccer.

@OniBarubary Them losing is alright to be honest since they weren't the stronger side, and they exhausted themselves way faster. The bit that gets me is that this match took nearly a whole year (The match started in chapter 93 I believe, way back sometime during Janurary - March of 2018) and it could have gone to a great draw, or maybe even penalties (during which they could have still lost and it would have been fine).

But instead, we got a last minute, kind of ass-pull goal that left me thinking "That's how this ends?". And you are right, it certainly isn't the final battle of the manga, but it's a match that has been 'hyped' up enough that we'd maybe get a more fitting ending to it than what we got - it just seems lackluster after everything that built up to it, all the back-and-forth between the players, all the great comebacks and pressure. But in the end, that's just my take on it, and others probably see it differently.

Honestly I'm a bit disappointed they lost just like that because in the end the story is just following the same kind of development of any other sports story : They give a hard time to their rivals the first time they meet for, usually, a practice match, then meet again later during an official tournament and lose. And after that a few members of both teams usually gather again for the national selection.

And asspull indeed because it seems to me that Mia gambled her shot entirely on Mai's reaction. Either that or Mai just imagined countering Mia but her body just didn't do anything due to exhaustion.

If I recall correctly not winning means their club gets disbanded. So this actually may have been the final battle of this manga. I hope I'm wrong and it doesn't end here.

Actually, the deal was that Kunimitsu will stop coaching them if they lost.

Either the teacher reconsiders, since they did pretty well, or the girls will carry on without Kunimitsu coaching them.
