I don't really understand the reasoning for manager Saotome's actions. She wants to kick Goro out because he doesn't follow the manual's safety protocols, so she threatens him, and so Goro goes to the 1st team to complain, and now that he has the 1st team's dubious protection, she still wants him to leave except now it's noble because he won't be taken advantage of?

At the end of Ch. 266, there was the whole revelation that she would be leading Goro to the same path as her eldest brother if she kicked him out, but now she still wants to kick him out anyway because destroying Goro is better than him getting branded as merchandise?

I still like the manga for its dramatic baseball (but mostly the almost daily releases, thank you MiDo so so much for that), but a lot of the plot devices and character reasoning never really made sense to me or just felt very awkward and detracts from the enjoyability of the story.

@SpaceFootballKing Pretty much. A lot of character logic in this manga is weird as all hell. Kaido especially seems to be some schizophrenic school that can't decide if its treats players like slaves, poor young kids, or merch.

@SpaceFootballKing I think part of it seems to come from the fact that if the guy has his way, Goro won't be following the manual. So it'll be a worst case thing of him being allowed to do as he wishes without the manual's safety while also being used as a tool without care for his safety in order to bring up the school's image.
