Who has it better then if he's fumbling around out in the open? Sistina writes her name the same way twice, but what he sees is her name and how she refers to him.
It comes off as this problematic issue of always being able to see the forest for the trees...regardless if there's actually a forest there or not.
While slightly inconvenient this is hardly an issue. Most of the time... Think of it this way, unless someone knows of this ability, he will always know the intent behind written words. It would remove the ambiguity in wordy contracts and laws. It would also allow him to break cyphers with relative ease.
On the flipside those in the know could have something completely displayed in his vision then what is written. So misleading information or secret messages ment only for him or others with this ability. Kind of find it funny that someone could just make a X in a message and have it actually be a full sentence to the recipient.
More practical uses of this skill will be as seen in the chapter where he can direct or coach individuals to get more use out of their classes and skills. Identifying items and materials should be another good use of the ability as long as there is a description.
And while kind of annoying this just means he will need someone to read important messages before acting on what's written.
