I just watched a panda documentary where it explains that pandas lost their ability to taste delicious meat in exchange for their ability to eat bamboo. Perhaps this guy can't eat normal foods anymore.

WN explains it a bit better over the course of multiple chapters. Basically he can still eat "normal" foods but he find them to be extremely boring / bland tasting. Pretty much the monster foods are giving him the Shokugeki No Sama experience every time.
