I can hardly tell what's going on because the way this battle has been portrayed is such a mess. But this is exactly the kind of thing I would do to bait my enemy into overextending themselves and putting them into a vulnerable position. I'm hoping that he's got a small, elite unit tucked away somewhere that the invading army passed without noticing. With him distracting them with his flashy magic, they won't see such a unit popping up behind them to take their general's head.

i guess this general doesn't know an obvious trap when he sees one. he may have got lucky with the rain but literally nothing else has gone his way. what makes him think this large and flashy magic is really the mc's trump card? someone really needs to read sun tzu's the art of war.

I still find this so annoying that the 4d chess MC makes so many tactical blunders, if his plan was to do what he's doing now that I tihnk it is then he could have started with this and not sacrificed so many of his men. This is a classic example of when you shouldn't write a character that you can't pull off.
