Decided to look up the final chapter of WN's main story. MTL'd it, but I think the broad strokes are accurate.
It ends with Ike and the demon lord having a talk in the newly built castle. There's this proclamation that he'll stay by her side, and as long as she doesn't start rampaging, he'll remain loyal to her. Oh, and about wanting to be friends with beings of all races.
It's also a lukewarm ending (it ends with the reiteration that Ike was a human adopted by his grandfather), but at least he didn't seem to have dipped in that version.
I wonder how LN did it.
