kinda convenient that she arrive just in time to “avenge” her subordinates. if only she was 5 minutes early or late…

If she was 5 minutes early, she wouldn't be able to avenge them. So they would get killed as she's unable to attack in vengeance. Meaning it would be the exact same situation, where they die and she swoops in to avenge them.
As for 5 minutes late, I guess that would work. But then the elf would die needlessly. So while she was forced to wait for her subordinates to die before she could step in to avenge them, she had no requirement for waiting until the stranger(elf) died too.
