Might have been a lot better to have Kang simply join his sect immediately and give him an access to the extremely long distance transfer arrays. The man would have been doing phenomenal business relying on them, being able to teleport to distant places immediately, transferring stuff with no delay. He could have moved a portion of the goods to the High Heaven Pavilion warehouse for internal use. There would always be alchemists and artefect refiners, plus cultivators, looking for stuff that's only found in certain parts of the Star Boundary. Those without access to long distance transfer arrays (which is most people) would need up to years to make the trip, whereas Kang could simply teleport here and there in no time, to acquire the stuff promptly. Between waiting for up to years or getting the item/ingredient in weeks or just days, most would opt for the latter even if they needed to pay more.

Having Kang stay in the Maplewood city for no particular reason doesn't really grant Yang Kai any concrete benefit. For Kang, it's kind of a dodgy situation because his superiors will still hate him, maybe even more, even if they would suffer his presence due to the trade Yang Kai brings through Kang. But how much will Kang himself enjoy that situation? Pointless, if you ask me.
