If Yang Kai hasn't sneaked in to destroy the nest while pretty much every ink clan member was preoccupied with the ink king's distress, I can only call this miserable writing. Because right now it looked like the old ancestor was the only human doing any fighting, while the rest of the army was doing nothing but defending the ships. That doesn't make any sense, so there has to be something going on we weren't shown.
