I see the elders fled to their caves, sacrificing the younger generation for the great good of the families. If the elders had decided to fight, surely those two kings wouldn't be free to act however they want. But then again, the elders didn't even believe there is an enemy attack, so they probably just went back home to have a cup of tea.
