thats a level that stops being humble and steps into incompetence or worse. its more like looking down on everyone too, if what he's doing is what he considers normal then everyone else is completely incompetent and weak.

This is like plot armor but for the antagonist, which is honestly worse than the protagonist having plot armor. It’s like Beast Tamer which was just incredibly frustrating

I fucking knew it… ~9/10 “expelled from the party” mangas recycle the ex-party–leader as an antagonist, and they somehow always find a way to make them side with demons too. It's like the authors are allergic to creating new antagonists.
A villain with an unbreakable plot armor is one of the most annoying things one can put in a story.

But he's the perfect Japanese stereotype. It's from that Conformance Culture where the nail that sticks out is pounded down. You're expected to:

• Deny any compliment or at least put your hand behind your head, look away, and laugh nervously (How often have you seen "You've been very helpful." responded to with "No! I didn't do anything!"?) ,
• Apologize for everything even when it wasn't your fault,
• Say that any success is due to someone else (who did 5% of the work), and
• Turn any apology around to blame yourself ("No! I'M the one sorry for denting your car when you ran the red light! It's MY FAULT because I should have been paying attention! When I get out of the hospital I'll pay for your auto body work!")
