No idea why the author gave mr. nobleman that looks like a hobo a second stage it would've been better if he appeared later or not at all.

Establishing expectations for future antagonists. Remember we're still in the first arc and Graciel is a remnant member of the noble factions of a kingdom whose king was immortal, plus Chronica said earlier that the supernatural powers of nobles make them more durable than normal people.

"We blew up a pressure cooker in his face and threw him off a moving train and he survived" establishes that these are antagonists for which a confirmed kill is necessary if you don't want them to come back after you, and being a very loud and driven mass murderer means unless he's meant to be a recurring antagonist the best way to have him show up again is to not have him allow the train to move too far before he gets back on it if the intention isn't for the starter conflict to persist beyond the train station (since removing him from the train takes off any immediate justification for our protagonists leaving in the middle of the trip).

manga feels... weird. cant quite put my finger on it.

could be because it feels like a 200k+ word book that isnt really translating well into manga form.

or the fact that this kind of setting doesnt really have a concrete goal for the fmc (recruits a conman on a whim and is simply running away as far as possible?)

or may be the incompatibility of incredible supernatural powers in a very convincingly drawn real historical setting

or weird pacing such as having two mini flashbacks in the first four chapters and casual mass murder in the first scene

or weird facts how a pressure pot and a kick can blast through a steel wall (tbh the drawings make it look like stone. stone train lul)

or its just off putting seeing a normal human instantly figure out how to get out of multiple sudden crises

or all of the above...

hopefully it gets better soon cuz im really diggin the art.
