Yes, exactly, doing one good deed now doesn't change the fact that you has put the life of many innocent people in danger. Kudos to the author for pointing this out, whereas many Japanese author seems to went "eeeehhh, they good now" and just move on like their crimes ain't even a thing.
Cry all you want, if the kingdom -cough cough the author- being logical then do expect a very severe punishment
