Just to comment on your closing note, there were indeed kind of a lot of TL notes, but I think that’s actually a better choice than Americanizing the text. I think it’s a bit of a fine line, deciding how much you want to trust your readers to understand Japanese culture references, but I think staying true to the original text is always be right call, which you have definitely done here.
