hi. medalheads.

we're finally here for hikaru's FS! firstly, i would like to thank the anonymous little bug for their redrawing efforts, as this chapter was especially difficult. and thank you again to machi mizuha's biggest fan for proofreading. very appreciated from us. thank you for your patience in waiting for this release. the redrawers were too busy playing balatro

please consider buying the official manga, whether it be the japanese raws or an official translation of the manga. it goes a long way to signal support towards the author and all the people involved in the production of medalist. don't forget the anime is still airing!

and now, I'd like to show the author comment by Tsurumaikada-sensei, included in the gutters of the magazine release of this chapter.
The highly acclaimed Medalist anime is now airing! It opens with a scene of Hikaru skating! I'm happy that everyone is able to watch it! Unlike manga, anime takes much longer to make, the anime staff must have been worried sick about how it was going to be received during the long time it was being produced, so I'm glad with the result...! I feel like taking each of them and toss them high up in the air to celebrate! The production staff of the anime deeply cherish the manga. They debated at length how to make it as interesting as possible for a wide range of ages, and were very particular about the quality of the output until the very end, so I'm really glad it all paid off...! As someone who's been rooting for them since the start, it makes me so happy! This must be how Mr. Sekoma feels (LOL). The secret of Hikaru's tano jumps, which she shows off here, is something I've been nurturing ever since I was told about it in an interview many years ago, I'm delighted to finally be able to include it in the manga...! I have always felt very strongly that I'm able to draw this manga thanks to the people in the figure skating world who are willing to share their expertise with me. I'll do my best to keep portraying figure skating as cool as possible to match the GOE +500 billion impressiveness of the anime's visuals!! But firstly, I'll make sure the schedule of the serialization continues smoothly!! I'll do my best!! (I'm truly very sorry that I always submit right before the deadline...)
enjoy the chapter, and as always, happy skating!

So it’s the “rivalries” that will help get Inori back to her feet. That makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for the chapter.

Yeah... I don't think Inori is gonna be in a good place after this. Quadruple Lutz? Inori can't even consistently pull a triple and Hikaru has multiple quads now, including the hardest.

The chasm increased by a large margin. Inori is already hurting badly now.

After 12 volumes we are back to square one: Inori realizing her gap from Hikaru and trying her best to catch up all over again.

Although, I'm not sure why Inori had to fail so hard to the point that she disconnects with Tsukasa just to show this scene. I hope the author has something in store to fix Inori and Tsukasa's relationship in the next chapter.

Hikaru: One day, I met her. A girl who, unlike me, seemed like she'd become Jun Yodaka with no problem.

Jun: A Fuck Up at life
Inori: A Fuck Up on the Ice

To all the remaining competitors, you all have my sympathies. I'm unsure if anyone will be willing to skate after getting their self-confidence nuked by that performance.

My goodness, those panels are absolutely stunning! There may a nearly immeasurable gap up ahead for Inori to bear, but man I'm really glad yet at a loss for words with that unbelievable performance. Hikaru was truly skating her heart out for Inori, to encourage her to get back up again...AS WELL AS for herself, no longer needing to stay under Yodaka's shadow.

Beautiful scene. So many incredible panels. Incredibly satisfying being able to see Hikaru's true feelings and how she expresses them through performance. Unveiled and true to herself. I want to see how Inori and Hikaru grow from this moment.

I dont think Inori will feel defeated by this. I think she's going to get a fire in her to match Hikaru. If anything this my Hikaru's last time with Jun Yodaka and now she's forging ahead on her own.

Hikaru is skating with a passionate soul, not for the judges, but to reignite the fire within Inori's heart. Inori still has a long road ahead but no way she's giving up here 🔥🔥🔥

I wouldn't worry, Inori is down on herself but she never shies away from greatness or what it takes to get there.

They were rivals 🙏

(But is it be or does it feel like Hikaru's going to be hurt after that program?)
Not all meaningful and strong bonds between people can be or must be romantic. Especially when they have a certain context.

Remember Hikaru is growing too so she will have to retrain her quads just like Inori had to after moving in Juniors and retrain fundamentals. Also Inori is the kind to get more fired up, the more insanity she sees. Inori will want to skate like Hikaru did. Remember her doing so well after Hikaru got everyone shaken up in Novice A.

The reason she got shaken up in the previous chapters was because of Iruka's injury reminding her of her sister's injury and Hikaru's lackluster performance. Ironically, she would've done better if both Iruka and Hikaru performed at their bests.
