I suspect this is the reason:


The dad pulled a John Edwards, banging the stepmom while the real mom was very sick but still alive. Seeing that the villainess are forced to listen to daily sermons during her imprisonment, it looks to me that religion is taken seriously in this kingdom that perhaps everyone in the household could be accused as complicit in abetting or covering up adultery.

If they were willing to further entertain the thought that body swapping is possible, it'd be pretty easy to test the theory. Like theoretically if it was a 1:1 body swap you'd ask what the person's original identity was and do an investigation on said identity to see if there had been similar rumors of an entirely different person (that is, if the villainess is dumb with the information flow, and the apothecary is open enough to divulge the information).

Though to commit with the idea, is another story. I guess that'd require them to reason whether the risk of her getting out outweighs the cost of resources spent to investigate it.

I like this story so far. However, the part where the vilainess get full control and turn the table on the step mom is just lazy writing in my opinion. Like how??? It's too fast and too convenient. A bit off for that part but the story is pleasant so far so it's ok.

Calling it lazy writing is just too early. There should be a backstory to it and we're still in chapter 2. Don't be so quick to judge. If there's no backstory then what everyone else's guesses about high regards in religion in this kingdom might be the reason. The father and the stepmom obviously committed adultery and abuse.
