I respect calling out the irrationality, but if it isn't explained or justified in the next few chapters, I don't think I'll be able to get on board with this MC.

He is irrational, but wouldn't you? It has been hinted he had some history with demons and angels who most likely lied to him and deceived him, so he doesn't trust them, not even Seraph. If he has lived some crazy life, it's bound to happen he has some screws loose.
