Whatever rounds they loaded into that 30 mm was definitely not the shrapnel filled originals the Apache would have,otherwise they'd be full of splinters.

Considering the damage shown,a fairly small HE charge?,which makes sense if they wanted to reduce the likelihood of hitting their own dudes.

My guess? There's a few weapons visible falling with them in the last frame. They'll use boolet to break the surface tension and make a safer dive. Will it still hurt? Probably. Will they survive? Again, probably. On that note, I am heavily invested in this series already and I just found it today. Really appreciating all the little references and the author showing their work.
