You know I could lambast Shohei for his utterly reckless and unilateral decision to quit his stable (but admittedly not very gainful) job as a salaryman in favor of pursuing a business venture with no guarantee of success...

I think in one of the first chapters, he mentioned he's working for a black company. He was promoted to Director but given his money issues, I'm guessing his promotion didn't get him into the group actually profiting.
