The map was of Scandinavia and the knickknacks also looked Scandinavian to me, so my guess is some variety of continental Scandinavian.I don't remember if they've mentioned what languages his mother spoke but from the map I guess she could speak Hungarian, which is certainly a niche language to learn as a Japanese language interpreter lol
Swede here, it's not a Scandinavian language and not any of the Nordic ones either. When I first saw that it was a map of Scandinavia I expected it to be in Finnish since the Japanese seem to love that place, but I recognised it as Hungarian without any special characters and after double checking Sweden is "Svédország" in Hungarian so it checked out.The map was of Scandinavia and the knickknacks also looked Scandinavian to me, so my guess is some variety of continental Scandinavian.
Still pretty niche, since most of everyone there speaks English.
It's a bit weird the dad isn't coming along, yes, but there might be more value to be found if he doesn't. The dad won't "rob" any attention from Zen himself. Especially the older generation would easily fall into chatting with only the already familiar dad, who is more of their age, and who already has the basic knowledge of the family line. What I thought Zen’s father will join. Won’t it be awkward that his “first” trip to his mom’s hometown without that one person connecting them?? Now it looks like he is bringing his wife instead
