It has been going for 30 years with no end in sight. If the trend continues, I don't even know if the mangaka will live to see it finished. (unless the conclusion is already written - to be released upon his death - and he plans to spend the rest of his life milking the series for all he can writing filler.)

I remember reading that Gosho Aoyama has the ending already written out, just not drawn. Still would be sad if someone else had to finish the story for him if he died.
