I imagine it's a specific style of poofy curled hair that was popular worldwide in like the 80s, which even here in the US is 'old person hair' since some people never moved on from it

Yeah, I figured out that style when they mentioned osakan granny . I guess her curl is really those smaller,tighter curl. Though her seems to be drawn to be more to wavy to me. Maybe being short, the hair couldnt do its curling thing.
