I know cafes/selling food is a thing that happens in school culture festivals but I imagine they can’t overcharge too much versus getting “tips” maybe (even tho there’s not rly a culture for that in JP but some teens would be shameless enough to ask) and pocketing the extra instead of it going back into the school funds

On the contrary, I'd think they do overcharge, in a manner of speaking, compared to what you'd actually get. They are just students, not professionals, and they haven't got a real café/restaurant kitchen either. Of course in reality I doubt the cultural festivals are anywhere near as fancy as manga makes them look like. So, if the prices still are comparable to what you'd pay in a real establishment, you'd essentially pay too much. But since it's about supporting students, it makes sense. That being said, from what I've understood, eating out in Japan is cheap compared to many other (old developed) countries, so an overcharging but normal Japanese cafe is still probably affordable in the eyes of many a foreigner. Maid cafes and such are a different thing, charging more to be financially viable. Not to mention host clubs, haha.

”Copy” means text or written words. Newspapers employ “copy editors,” advertising writers are called “copywriters,” etc. It’s only used in professional settings, though. The note your mom leaves for you on the fridge is not “copy.”
