The friend character's name, Xiao Sa, is written as “小飒”. Xiao/小 means small/little and is often used as a nickname in combination with another word from a person's name. However, in this specific case, the dude's name is actually "Xiao Sa", and Mr Straight-laced here is not referring to his friend as "Little Sa".
In other news, Mr Ghost sure loves his desserts. The mochi doughnut in this chapter is called “波提” or "Botti" in Chinese. To be honest, I'm not sure how it came to be known as that, but my guess is that it sounds similar to the Pon De Ring doughnuts that were pretty popular a while back.
About the series in general:
Mr Ghost is actually literally referred to as Teacher Ghost in the source text, while Mr {insert number here} is referred to as Master {insert number here}. Nevertheless, I understand that Teacher XXX and Master XXX may not sound as natural as Mr XXX, so I will maintain the previous TL's decision and simply include it here as a note for context.
Also, I don't remember if the previous TL ever mentioned this, but Ghost is pronounced as "Gui" in Chinese, so when Mr Seven calls Mr Ghost "Gui Qing", it is implied that he is primarily called Mr Ghost because that's his surname. "Gui Qing" itself doesn't mean much (well it's actually a traditional medicinal ingredient called Chinese privet, but that's not really relevant to the plot).
About the future of this series:
The first spoiler will be about the state of the manhua currently on Tencent Comis, and the second will be a minor spoiler about the where the manhua is currently in terms of the plot to help you make a decision as to whether or not you'd like to continue reading this.
Sadly, Mr Ghost's Dark Philosophy has not been updated by the author since November 2018. The reason for this is most likely due to the fact that while the Manhua has garnered a strong, loyal following (with Chinese readers coming back to "sweep the grave" and lament about the inactivity even as of April 2023), the readership and engagement count can be considered dismal. Chinese readers have theorized that Tencent Comics have discontinued the series due to poor performance, while the author revealed comedically in a later extra chapter that he had been burnt out due to overwork and pressure from poor performance. He also suggested that the series was being axed in the extra, but he released a couple of chapters afterwards, so there is no confirmation if it is 100% an axe.
Although I believe the Manhua to most likely have been axed, the author did make an effort to end the series at the end of an arc, with hints of an ending. What I mean by hints of an ending is that while several plot points like some of the ones set up in this chapter where unresolved in time, you can derive an outcome of Mr Ghost's journey.
As for whether I will continue scanlating this series, I'm a rusty ex-freelance translator who's doing this just to get some practice in before doing paid jobs again. I don't really know how to typeset or redraw, and while this chapter was simple enough, there are some harder chapters ahead. Most likely, I'll continue this at my own pace (one chapter a week), just for fun, but if I get busier and it doesn't seem like there are many readers interested, I might drop it at some point. Who knows?
Anyhow, this sure is a wall of text... thanks for reading! (oh ya, any and all feedback welcomed)
