Aoi's design kept it pretty ambiguous given they just wore a sweater the whole time and no pants.

Hard to feel sorry for the kid. He was a liar 24/7 in life who brought all his misfortune on himself.

Yeah he got bullied, but only because he kept purposely pissing everyone off for attention.
The kid had enough opportunites to learn and change, but refused to do so at every turn.
He was such a huge liar that he even deceived himself into thinking he was more than human. And at the end of the day, his own death and fate in the afterlife was all his own fault.
