Said as much the last time I read this, but this dud would have been better off applying to a less prestigious guild. He just wants to float. Make enough money to help support the family. Not be involved with politics or designated quests from nobles. Nor get in dick measuring contests with hotheaded battle junkies.

So he should have just become a solo hunter/gatherer, or joined a low to medium ranked guild. All that awaits this pathway is the destruction of this high ranked guild as they utterly wreck themselves trying to grind this over large square peg into a much too small round hole.
