That's kind of the problem. IIRC, that dukedom is the most powerful Noble House in the country, just shy of being Royals themselves. By making such close ties with them, that's practically a declaration of war in all-but name because he's pretty much consolidated sizeable portion of the Kingdom's power in a single move.

I just think it's funny that he's oblivious to that fact, and keeps on digging his grave by seeking even more power, thinking that by gaining power he's gonna deter the others. Which, in a ways, is a fair assumption. He just doesn't realize that it's also having an antagonistic effect.

You mean succession? Secession would be even worse, haha. But who knows...
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if he would end up becoming the king in the end, against his will. It's not uncommon in this kind of setting.

I would agree with you that it could end up in that direction but I think our MC Harold has a bit of problem with being a bit too passive and a bit too much of jp. MC issues ,having little or no desire to get close to Alexandra
