The dude should have married her dad. Her dad was fully aware of the cruelty he put him and his friends under. Her ignorance towards their experiences is annoying as hell but she isn't responsible for it like her father.

I totally get the vibe they're going for. Where young Annette is innocent yet subtly arrogant. Asks why he hasn't confessed yet. Clearly, any man she was interested in in the past would take the initiative because shes just so pretty. It therefore makes sense that his perfect image of her as a saintess is tainted by the reality that she's just a sheltered, oblivious princess.
