Was it the right time to confess? YES!
Some may forget that Satou first unsuccessful meeting made her so sad, although being cheerful on the outside, that her immune system gone vulnerable which is common thing while being depressed.
She even continue to blame herself of being not pretty, insecure, terrible, causing people discomfort, being creepy, etc. and after being stood up once again would put her on the edge this time most likely...
Sure Yamaguchi was selfish and taking advantage of Satou bad mood, but on the other hand his motives were true, he understood his feelings and can be supportive as he always was with all his heart.
Sure hope that "net guy" was a pedophile and he saw Yamaguchi waiting with Satou and ran away, because if a usual boy would put an insecure girl like that through such torment, deserve a well earned beating.
