I want to enjoy the story. But there are discrepancies in both the official and unofficial.

Spoiler: she says

the thesis she wrote for Pedro was basically fake and that the concept is flawed. She demonstrates it as such. The ruler is stupid af or its just written poorly because he puts her in prison for it. She makes a claim about writing a thesis about tracking magic... and doesn't specify that it was a FAKE thesis. She is recognized for the (again) FAKE thesis and asked to work with someone else on tracking spells.
