Do you think Patricia will get her happily ever after with Rodrick, or will it remain a one-sided love forever?
What are your thoughts?

This is just so goofy, the 'twist' is just too extreme; the little blushing nerd boy is actually being lusted after by the hot idol girl? She could just ask him out, and he'd almost certainly say yes, even if he had never seen her in that light previously.
This is a one sided love, totally perpetuated and reinforced by her - it comes across as her getting high off the theatrics and drama of it.

Meanwhile if the roles were more traditional, or reversed in this case, the little dude could never really hope to get her no matter how much he loved her, in the same way I could never possibly get a date with any other film or music star - it's possible, but the chances are so slim you might as well not even entertain them in the slightest.
This is totally reasonable mind you, you could never expect a female performer to entertain all her male fans that far.

On a side note; I don't think I've seen a comic on the tragic one-sided love of a male fan to a female entertainer? It seems so obviously tragic, surely someone has done it? With all the Japanese protags who only bat for '2D women', surely there's some work out there about a man who's only in love with knowingly unobtainable women? :thonk:
Anyway, this is a waaay to long comment for what was likely a quick dramatic joke by the author, lol.

I could go on for a long-winded spiel about why this 'works' as a story(idol/otaku relationships in relation to the culture, the fact Patricia is meant to be the POV character while Rodley/Rodrick is literally just an idol-ified 'pure' otaku to her where we aren't privy to his inner world, etc)

But I'm just going to say "go read https://mangadex.org/title/0976963e...b29cc2/damedoru-to-sekai-ni-1-nin-dake-no-fan and enjoy a pure otaku and the idol who's too much of an idiot not to be herself"

I mean sure her having a break down the very first time she doesn't see him at her performance is a bit much, but her hesitance to confess makes sense.

Patricia knows that she could have him and be in a relationship with him if she wants, but she also knows that the love she feels for him is very different from the love that Rodrick has for her. From what little we can gleam from Patricia, all of Rodricks notes express deep admiration and adoration for her singing and performance, not for her as a person ( understandably so since he doesn't actually know her as a person ). This is idolization not love and Patricia knows this.

She can confess and he'll most likely accept being in a relationship with her, but she'll always have to worry about if her feelings are truly being reciprocated. Whether or not he is in love with her for who she is or if he's in love with the idol that he has on a pedestal in his mind. Whether or not if she lost her ability to perform Rodrick's love for her would be just as intense.

Although she is this superstar musical artist, who is use to having hundreds if not thousands of eyes staring at her and being able to maintain her confidence and stride, this whirlwind of anxieties stays her voice and gives her pause, and each new note from Rodrick commending her singing and performing without trying to get to know her deeper stacks on even more of those anxieties.

I actually liked this. It could have done with a few pages showing us why she likes him and showing him only caring about her singing. As is it feels like a peak into someone else’s world which is often what a oneshot can be.

This remind me of another story I read awhile back that I can’t remember the name of, about a fangirl who was like addicted to handsome men. She let them us her and belittle her for her appearance and all this stuff but didn’t care because she just liked that they were hot. Eventually she does try to get better but has an issue with one guy that’s interested in her because he doesn’t know if she likes him for him or because he’s hot.

Both stories are very “pretty people have problems too” but people not liking you the way you like them is universal and cuts deep when there is literally nothing you can do.

Thanks!

................................................................................................................. feels like she's reading too much into this.

we could just a sequel/sidequel from his POV but i feel like it basically is overall "They don't love you, they love the 'idea of you'" cliche or so lol

I think there was a vocaloid/mikotoP song like that tho it implied they were in a relationship before maybe and had to break up b/c of her career?
Been a while since i watched/listened but he did make it a 'trilogy' song/series lol

Exactly, she could always confess, and most certainly get into a relationship with him, so the crying on the floor screaming about her unfulfilled love is stupid.
As for whether or not her love is being reciprocated, or whether or not he will love her for her; that's what the point of dating is - figuring these things out. We all will question whether or not we're as loved as much we love them.

Just because she's an idol, doesn't mean she's above these more obnoxious human experiences; and crying on the floor about a love you could have is just silly. So I'll stick with my original critique that this is all over wrought for drama. :dogkek:

Great story but his name is stupid and her dialogue is a little on the nose. Would have been better if she was bottling this up and we didn't get shown until the very end
