I don't get why the gender bender play such an important role other than world build. Just because he turned into a guy doesn't mean he's all-powerful. It isn't that well of an ex machina.

I think it was more of their race embodied the most extreme of each gender. I dont mean to sound sexist or anything but men far surpass women physically and women are more mentally equipped for productive tasks. So if they became male they'd likely have strength far surpassing any human where as if they became female I'd guess they'd be the "perfect" wife?...I think.
