Nope, It have always this way. While the ship is clear though it is just one side. like how even other character acknowledged and thought they are dating and MC clearly fall for Nanako. Thing is realistically, keep it wholesome it should stay that way, MC is fine settle for friend since well, she already married. Thing is, MC falling for her, while all knowing her is married. What do that sound like ? A lot of one side crush drama manga. You are in for a drowning ship from the get go. Idk you guys but i see it that way since chapter 1.
And the fact that this is keep mostly wholesome and not "haha, rapey, sapegaty is straight until it get wet" "or NTR go brrr" suggests that it will be in the failing drowning ship ending, not where the love interest just somehow have dead partner or breakup and MC got the love interest ending
