Sooo...

This chapter is happening around September 1795 (late Fructidor An III/early Vendémiaire An IV)

In this chapter Napoleon mentioned his job at the Bureau of Topography, which he got in August of the same year. His plans of traveling to Turkey, to serve the Ottoman sultan came around the same time as his removal from the list of generals in regular service.

This removal on the 15th of September (29th Fructidor) was a result of Napoleon's earlier refusal to participate in the suppression of the reactionary uprising in Vendée.

Just as he predicts in this chapter, the unpopularity of the Thermidorian Reaction will soon cause a royalist uprising against the National Convention (3rd October 1795/11 Vendémiaire An IV), where Paul Barras will grant him an opportunity of a lifetime.
