This is like the stupidest backstory ever. Like in a story of Ninjas risking death on a daily basis, with dangerous psychotic enemies, Kishi decides its a great idea to give Sakura a school romance backstory. Like really, that’s the best backstory you can give her in this type of setting? Sakura decides to cut her friendship with Ino because they like the same kid at preschool or whatever. My best friend throughout all of public school also liked the same girl as me for a while and we were still homies even knowing that about each other. It’s unfortunate that Sakura just has the role of ”potential” love interest for Sasuke, being a lead character and all.

I agree that Sakura is HUGE missed potential in part 1 but I also think her having that weak ass backstory is intentional to show the difference in her life versus people like Sasuke and Naruto. As well as to show the fact that at the end of the day these are still kids and many of them aren't built for how harsh to ninja world is going to be.

I agree with this. This is also my favorite sakura moment (along with her sasori fight) because this is her finally stepping out of her mundane life to truly fight (even if she's not much of a fighter yet)
