Matoba is the type who thinks the end justifies the means. Capable of sacrificing ayakashi and possibly even humans without batting an eye if he thinks it's worth it. There's probably a reason for why he thinks so too, I'd guess.

Everytime we learn more about Matoba and Natori, I can’t help but pity them. Compared to Natsume’s current situation, it feels like they have no one truly looking out for them. (I dont count the Matoba Clan protecting Seiji becaues its only due to his status/power).

As much as we learn about matoba, I cannot bring myself to like him. Or even feel bad for him. He's just too ready to manipulate and sacrifice. And too ready to show natsume horrid things that no-one should have to see.
